{"id":88655,"date":"2023-06-05T13:09:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T17:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/?post_type=support&#038;p=88655"},"modified":"2024-09-05T11:36:55","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T15:36:55","slug":"change-user-information-in-m365-or-google-workspace","status":"publish","type":"support","link":"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/change-user-information-in-m365-or-google-workspace","title":{"rendered":"Change User Information in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Learn how to change a user\u2019s name, username and email address in 黑料海角91入口, and how it affects their Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and machine bindings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>An active <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/google-workspace-integration-overview\">Google Workspace<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/m365-directory-integration-overview\">Microsoft 365<\/a> integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An existing <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/get-started-users\">user<\/a> account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The username attribute is the only attribute that can\u2019t be modified unless the user is disconnected from all of their resources (including device bindings):\n<ul>\n<li>When you disconnect a user from their Google Workspace or M365 directory integration, the user\u2019s status changes to suspended or disabled in each respective integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you unbind a user from their device, their user account will be deactivated on the machine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need to forward emails from the old address to the new email address, do one of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Create an MX rule in M365\/Exchange<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the old address as a secondary alias of the new account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-updating-a-name-username-or-email-address-change-on-a-mac\">Updating a Name, Username, or Email Address Change on a Mac\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Bind a secondary admin to the user&#8217;s device in 黑料海角91入口. You will complete the username change from this account on the device.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>If the Mac already has a secondary admin account, you can use it instead of creating a new admin account.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Log in to the secondary admin account on the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the 黑料海角91入口 Admin Portal, unbind the user from all resources, including the device.\n<ul>\n<li>The user account is disabled on the device as result<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modify the user&#8217;s Name, Username and Email Address fields as necessary in both 黑料海角91入口 and the Google Workspace or M365 integration, as appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>In this example, we are changing the user&#8217;s 黑料海角91入口 username.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>On the user\u2019s device, make the changes to the user\u2019s account:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add Terminal to the list of allowed apps:\n<ul>\n<li>Open <strong>System Preferences<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Security &amp; Privacy<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Privacy<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Full Disk Access<\/strong>, and add <strong>Terminal<\/strong> to the list of allowed apps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Terminal<\/strong> is located in the <strong>\/Applications\/Utilities<\/strong> directory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the account&#8217;s username:&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-code-block code-block\"><div class=\"code-block-snippet is-type-body-default\">\n<p>dscl . -list \/Users | grep -Ev &#8220;^_|^com\\..*|root|nobody|daemon|\\\/&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>Rename the local user&#8217;s home directory, substituting the correct values for old_username and new_username:&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-code-block code-block\"><div class=\"code-block-snippet is-type-body-default\">\n<p>sudo mv \/Users\/old_username \/Users\/new_username<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>In the 黑料海角91入口 Admin Portal, bind the 黑料海角91入口 user back to their device and resources. Wait approximately 60 seconds for the device-bind operation to complete.\n<ul>\n<li>When you reconnect the renamed user to Google Workspace and\/or M365 integrations, the modified settings will be updated in the respective tenants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the device, change ownership of the user\u2019s home directory to their new username:&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-code-block code-block\"><div class=\"code-block-snippet is-type-body-default\">\n<p>sudo chown -R new_username:admin \/Users\/new_username<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li>(Optional) In <strong>System Preferences<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Security &amp; Privacy<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Privacy<\/strong> &gt;<strong> Full Disk Access<\/strong>, remove <strong>Terminal<\/strong> from the list of allowed apps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log out of the admin account on the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Optional) Unbind the secondary admin account from the device in 黑料海角91入口.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log in to the user\u2019s account on the Mac.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Folders that exist in the Dock may have a \u201c?\u201d icon as a result of the change to the home directory. To resolve this, drag the \u201c?\u201ds out of the Dock, then drag and drop the folder(s) into the Dock again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-updating-a-name-username-or-email-address-change-on-a-non-mac\">Updating a Name, Username, or Email Address Change on a Non-Mac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">黑料海角91入口 Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the user that needs a username change, then remove the user\u2019s access to all of their resources (including device bindings)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>Usernames can\u2019t be changed until this is done.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>(Optional) In the 黑料海角91入口 User Details Panel, copy and paste the user&#8217;s original username into the <strong>Local User Account<\/strong> field, then modify the user&#8217;s <strong>Last Name<\/strong>, <strong>Username<\/strong> and <strong>Email Address<\/strong> fields as necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reconnect the user to their resources:\n<ul>\n<li>When you reconnect the renamed user to Microsoft 365 and\/or Google Workspace integrations, the modified settings will be updated in the respective tenants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the renamed user is bound to their device:\n<ul>\n<li>If the original username is copied to the <strong>Local User Account<\/strong> field in 黑料海角91入口, the original user profile will be utilized.
